Time Management

The arrival of September signifies the start of school for many students. If you are a new student starting dental school for the first time, it can be intimidating to accomplish everything on your to-do list. Once the semester gets into full swing, it may seem like there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish your tasks. We want to share some tips to help with your time management that you can incorporate into your daily life:

Plan Ahead

Planning your day ahead of time can be a big help. It may also be helpful to make a note of how long it takes to complete each task. In the future, you will be able to see how you can save time when your schedule is extremely full. It is important to create a new schedule at the start of each semester or each time your schedule changes or when more tasks are added.

Stay Focused on One Task

It is easy to get overwhelmed when you have so much on your plate at one time. It is tempting to bounce from task to task to accomplish a little of each task and continue with that until you complete your list. While that may work for some, it is more time effective to start one task and work to completion before moving to the next task.

Create a Strategy to Study

Studying will be a big part of your dental school experience. It is wise to create a study strategy. In fact, it may be beneficial to start the process while you are in class. It is helpful to make additional notes, bullets, or guides to help with your studying after class.

Make Time for Yourself

Dental school can feel overwhelming, especially once you really get into the semester. It is still important to set some time aside for yourself. Whether it is going out to dinner with friends, reading an enjoyable book, or even taking a long walk in a nearby park. Clearing your mind is essential to staying focused.
